About Us

S.W.I.N.E. (Scholar's Wine-Imbibing Nocturnal Enclave) is an informal social group interested in cetacean research.  The East Point Loma Chapter of S.W.I.N.E. has held irregular meetings (some highly so) over the past four decades.  It is dedicated to promoting interspecies communication between humans and swine.  Porpoises are viewed as surrogates until pigs get rights denied by zoning regulations.

Our originator and fearless leader (Head Hog) is Dr. Sam H. Ridgway, Senior Scientist, U. S. Navy Marine Mammal Program, SPAWAR Systems Center, San Diego and Professor of Comparative Pathology, School of Medicine, University of California, San Diego and Foremost Marine Mammal Veterinarian, Entrepreneur, Intellectual, and Raconteur.

Head Hog Sam Ridgway with patient.
