Land Animals
I've Worked With

Between 1987 and 1994, I was an animal care volunteer for a woman in Rolling Hills Estates, California who had a private zoo and local wildlife rehabilitation center in her (very large) backyard. These are a few of the resident animals I helped care for.

"Mandy," a playful young female goat who was rescued from Catalina Island where she was found next to her mother who was killed by a bowhunter and left to die.

"Fallon," a very affectionate female donkey/burro modeling the latest in fly masks.

"Lili LePew," an orphaned, hand-raised female striped skunk (Mephitis mephitis).

"Scruffy," an orphaned female raccoon (Procyon lotor).

"P. J. Max," a male Virginia opossum (Didelphis virginianus). P. J. was once someone's pet but that person could not take care of him anymore. Whoever it was, they did a very good job of hand-raising him.

"Muy," an adult male emu or Australian ostrich. One look at his feet and you would instantly agree that birds descended from dinosaurs.

"Twiggy," a Debrazza's Guenon or masked monkey. She was always ready to be groomed by primates of any species.

This cat loved to drink out of this outdoor faucet when it constantly leaked, but after the leak was fixed, he would wait like this to get a drink which never came.
