DAY 2 - Detail & Scale

Spent the morning checking the Internet and CNN for the latest wildfire news; am worried that a branch of the so-called Witch Fire seems headed in the direction of my neighborhood. At the same time I have the more immediate concern of severe thunderstorms! Wish I could send all this rain to Southern California (without all the thunder and lightning of course). If I have to, I'm going to cancel the rest of my (so-called) vacation and come home early.
This is the day I visit the National Museum of Naval Aviation where I have been asked to get close-up photographs of markings on aircraft similar to those we have on board (or are getting for) the USS Midway Museum. Getting to the museum, I discover the flash on my digital camera has decided to cease functioning. Decide to do video walk arounds of the aircraft and other exhibits instead but at least attempt to do existing-light photography where I might have a slight chance of success.
This museum is huge; will have to make a return trip later this week to get more images.

Major Buong's Cessna O-1 Bird Dog which landed aboard USS Midway during Operation Frequent Wind (the evacuation of South Vietnam in April of 1975). Being suspended from the ceiling, it was difficult to get good close-ups of the markings.

Midway memorabilia I found in the Cubi Bar Cafe while having lunch there. If I'm not mistaken, this is an E-2 Hawkeye prop blade for what I believe was the "Liberty Bell" airborne early warning squadron.
