Wings of Gold Tour

This was originally supposed to be a group tour with members and staff of the USS Midway Museum to the National Museum of Naval Aviation in Pensacola, the battleship USS Alabama in Mobile, and the National D-Day Museum in New Orleans. The trip was cancelled due to an insufficient number of commitments, but after having already submitted my vacation request and having done so much research on these locations, I decided to go anyway on my own. I just cut out the visit to New Orleans, not so much because of "been there, done that," but rather because I do not consider New Orleans the sort of place to visit alone.

The fact that this trip comes 45 years after the Cuban Missile Crisis is not lost upon me. I will be just 90 miles away from where Soviet nuclear ballistic missiles threatened to annihilate the southeast quarter of the United States all the way up to Washington, DC (and later up to New England and most of the West Coast).
