Developed by Hughes Space and Communications Group (now part of Boeing), the Leasat program was designed to serve as a successor to the US Navy FltSatCom system of communications satellites. The system is composed of four satellites in geosynchronous orbit, with a solar array generating 1260 watts of power for UHF and SHF transmissions.
